NPORS Experienced Worker Test Excavator 180 (N201)

If you're an experienced operator but, do not hold a formal qualification, the NPORS Experienced Worker Test (EWT) Excavator 180 (N201) allows you to demonstrate your competence and gain your NPORS operator card without completing full novice training.

This assessment is designed specifically for skilled, time-served operators who can already operate a 180-degree excavator safely and efficiently.

The 180- degree excavator (also known as backhoe loader without front bucket use) is commonly used for:

• Trenching and drainage work

• Footings and foundations

• Loading dumpers

• Site clearance

• Excavation in confined areas

Operators must demonstrate safe operation, correct attachment use and full awareness of site safety procedures.

Who Is this Test For?

This route is ideal if you:

• Have previous experience operating a 180 excavator

• Have worked in construction, utilities, groundwork, or civil engineering

• Need a recognised operator card for site access

• Want to upgrade from in-house training to a nationally recognised qualification

• Previously held a card that has expired

⚠️ This is not suitable for beginners. If you are new to the machine, novice training is required.

What Will Be Assessed?

During your NPORS Excavator 180 EWT assessment, you will be required to:

• Conduct full pre-use and post-use inspections

• Identify controls and safety devices

• Demonstrate correct start-up and shut-down procedures

• Excavate trenches to specification

• Load vehicles safely

• Work within safe digging practices (including underground services awareness)

• Park and secure the machine correctly
