How this course will help you

Enhancing Site Supervisory Skills

This course will provide you with information about the most up to date laws and regulations surrounding Health and Safety, therefore helps you understand how to reduce risks and stay safe on site.

What qualifications do you need to be a site supervisor?

While requirements can vary by industry and employer, the following qualification are commonly expected:

  • Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) - A key health and safety qualification for site supervisors

  • NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Construction Site Supervision or Construction Site Management - A vocational qualification showing competence in the role.

  • CSCS Gold Supervisor Card - Often required on construction sites, awarded after completing an NVQ and passing the relevant CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test.

Can you run a site with SSSTS?

No, not on your own. The SSSTS (Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme) allows you to supervise on a construction site, but not run or manage the entire site idependently.

What is the difference between a SSSTS and a SMSTS course?

SSSTS is for supervising workers and focusing on health and safety at team level and a SMSTS is for managing the entire site, covering safety, legal duties, planning and leadership.

Is a SSSTS course an NVQ?

No, the SSSTS course is not a NVQ. The SSSTS course is a 2 day training course accredited by CITB and focuses on health and safety responsibilities for site supervisors this results in a certification, not a qualification level and is valid for 5 years.
