TEMPORARY WORKS SUPERVISOR (TWS) COURSE

BS5975 has long recommended a TWS may be appointed to assist the Temporary Works Co-ordinator (TWC) in the supervision and inspection of the TW. This is a site based role and should be undertaken by a responsible and experienced person. Essentially, the TWS acts as the eyes and ears of the TWC and should have a good working knowledge of the specific TW being supervised.

A Principal Contractor’s TWC may appoint an experienced site engineer as TWS, whereas a sub-contractor’s TWC may appoint as TWS the person in charge of the team erecting and dismantling the TW. Consequently, a project may have numerous Temporary Works Supervisors appointed.

Our 1-Day course provides essential information on industry best practice for those about to or are currently undertaking the TWS role. An accepted level of knowledge is verified via the CITB assessment on conclusion of the course, the certificate for which is a prerequisite within many leading construction companies. The course highlights management processes, health and safety considerations, and inspection elements.

Many topics are covered, including:

  • Examples of what constitutes TW in the construction industry

  • Duties and responsibilities of TWS and other key roles in the control of TW

  • Recommendations of BS 5975 in relation to the procedural control of TW

  • Documents commonly used as part of a TW control procedure

  • Importance of Communication, Co-ordination, Co-operation and Competence

  • Examples of both successful practice and failures of TW

A comprehensive hard copy Course Notebook is provided for each delegate for both on-the-day and future reference purposes.
